Questions
Questions, answered.
What if there is not much in the record about my house?
We check before we begin. Some houses, especially newer or seasonal ones, have a thin paper trail. If yours does, we will tell you what we found and what the book can and cannot include, and you can decide whether to go ahead. We never fill gaps with invention.
Will the book name previous owners?
Owners from the deed chain and households in historical census records, yes. We do not add living people found only in commercial databases, and we leave living spouses of former residents unnamed unless the family asks.
Can I change the text?
Yes. Click any sentence in your draft to edit it. You can also ask our writing help to make a paragraph shorter, warmer or more factual; it suggests, and you decide.
Can I add my own photographs?
Yes, and family documents and memories. Upload them any time before you approve the proof. Please upload only pictures you took or have permission to use.
Will text ever be cut off?
No. If a change makes a passage longer than its page, we set the page differently or continue the chapter on the next spread. We never shrink the type or drop words, and we show you the result before printing.
Can I choose the cover?
Yes. We suggest a linen that suits your house, and you choose the cloth and the address and place as they appear on the cover.
How long does it take?
It depends on the house and the archives. We will give you a date once we have looked at the record, and your account shows where your book is at every step.
How many pages is it?
Usually 24 to 40, as the material allows. The book is an 8 by 8 inch linen hardcover.
Can I order more copies later?
Yes. Finished books stay in your account so you can order copies for family or the next owners.
